UK visa fees: a complete breakdown
The current fees for UK visas, the Immigration Health Surcharge and how to estimate your total.
- UK visa fees vary by route and by how long the visa is granted.
- The Immigration Health Surcharge is charged on top of the visa fee.
- Fees are reviewed regularly and can change.
- Use the fee calculator to estimate your total, including dependants.
The main visa fees
Each route has an application fee, and many charge more when you apply from outside the UK than when you switch or extend inside.
The Skilled Worker, Student and family visas each have their own fee, which is set per year of permission.
Immigration Health Surcharge
Most applicants also pay an Immigration Health Surcharge, which gives access to the National Health Service. It is charged per year and per person, including dependants.
The surcharge is added to the visa fee and is not refundable in most cases.
Priority and premium services
You can pay extra for priority or super-priority processing to get a faster decision. These services are optional and have their own fees.
Check availability, because they are not offered for every route or location.
What is not included
The fee does not cover the English test, the Life in the UK test, tuberculosis testing, translations or legal advice.
Budget for these separately, especially if you are applying with a family.
How to estimate your total
Add the visa fee, the Immigration Health Surcharge for each person, and any priority service. The VisaWyse fee calculator does this by route and number of applicants.
Confirm the current amounts on GOV.UK before you pay, as fees change.
