IRCC confirms category-based selection priorities for 2026
The department has confirmed the occupational and language categories that will guide targeted Express Entry draws next year.
- Category draws can have a different cut-off from general draws.
- Candidates are still ranked within the category by CRS.
- Keep your occupation and language evidence current in your profile.
IRCC has published its category-based selection priorities for the coming year. Targeted draws allow the department to invite candidates who meet a specific labour market or language objective rather than ranking the entire pool in one general draw.
For candidates, the practical effect is that a lower CRS score can still receive an invitation when a targeted category matches their profile. The category chosen in a particular draw is announced with the draw results.
Review your National Occupational Classification (NOC) code and language results before the next round. A profile that no longer reflects your job duties or test scores may miss a category it should qualify for.
